NO A226 JUNCTION! NO WAY!

NO A226 JUNCTION! NO WAY!

With this junction in place, traffic along the A226 will increase by at least 10,000 vehicles a day (on a good day!)

Traffic at the Lion Garage roundabout will be at least 2 or 3 times the volume we have now (on a good day).

Traffic through Gads Hill and Shorne Crossroads will be 2 or 3 times the volume we have now (on a good day).

The narrow lanes through Shorne village will become a major rat-run for traffic trying to get to and from the crossing (on a good day).

And on a bad day?

If there’s an incident at the Dartford tunnels, or the bridge is closed by wind, the A226 and all the surrounding areas will become totally and utterly gridlocked. Gravesend will grind to a halt and it will be impossible to travel from the villages into Gravesend. This frequently happens in Dartford.

All the while the junction on the A226 is included in the plan, it is impossible to move the tunnel portals any further south, away from Chalk. We would be stuck with them.

Highways England have said that they have taken these concerns on board. We shall see. I think we will hear from them soon.
