About Us

Established in 2016, the Lower Thames Crossing Association (LTCA) is a grassroots, community-driven organization focused on advocating for the well-being of the people and environment of north Kent. Its mission is to critically examine and challenge the proposed Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) project, particularly addressing the potential environmental damage, disruption to local communities, and long-term sustainability concerns.

LTCA aims to ensure that any infrastructure solutions provide meaningful relief from traffic congestion and pollution, without sacrificing environmental integrity. We actively promote alternatives that balance transport needs with ecological preservation and community protection. Additionally, LTCA works to mitigate the negative impacts of any chosen crossing option by influencing planning decisions and engaging with local residents, encouraging their participation in consultations and debates about the project.

The organization positions itself as a watchdog for both local and broader public interests, striving to hold authorities accountable for the project’s financial and environmental risks. Through ongoing campaigns, LTCA fosters community involvement and raises awareness of the critical issues tied to the LTC project.

The Kent-based LTCA works in close collaboration with our colleagues at the Thames Crossing Action Group based in Thurrock.

In particular its objectives are:-

  • to oppose Lower Thames Crossing options which are to the detriment of the environment and communities of north Kent,
  • to promote Lower Thames Crossing solutions which provide maximum relief from traffic congestion and pollution, and
  • to promote measures to mitigate the adverse impacts of the final crossing option selected.

The LTCA is currently a dormant campaign group, with no regular formal meetings or communications taking place. However, those previously involved (see below) stand ready to remobilise should the need arise. In the meantime, the group’s online presence, including its website and social media, is maintained by Robin Bull, Acting Chair and Digital Content Officer. Robin also keeps in touch with colleagues at the Thames Crossing Action Group, our sister campaign group in Essex.

While dormant, the LTCA’s primary purpose remains to benefit communities in Gravesham and Dartford, as well as the wider north Kent area. The group has historically collaborated closely with campaign groups in Thurrock, and should activity resume, it may again seek to apply for grants, engage in publicity and fundraising activities, enter into contracts with specialist organisations, and engage legal representation.

Any future communications will continue via the LTCA website and associated social media channels. All activities and expenditures related to the campaign will be subject to the approval of those involved in the organisation, with a focus on transparency and community engagement.
