LTCA Admins Respond to Government Approval of LTC Plans

On 25 March 2025, the UK government granted development consent for the controversial Lower Thames Crossing project—paving the way for a £9 billion road scheme linking Kent and Essex via what will become the UK’s longest road tunnel.

The Admins of the Lower Thames Crossing Association website are disappointed by the Labour government’s decision to press ahead with the proposals.

Despite the passage of time, nothing has changed—the problems remain the same, and the concerns raised by communities, environmental experts, and transport professionals remain entirely valid.

This project continues to offer poor value for money, minimal relief at Dartford, and threatens significant environmental damage to protected landscapes and greenbelt land.

Induced demand, flawed assumptions, and the shifting of traffic problems—not solving them—are all well-documented consequences of schemes like this. We reiterate: this is the wrong road, in the wrong place, at the wrong price.

At this stage, the Admins have no further comment to make.

Note: The term “Admins” is used as the Lower Thames Crossing Association (LTCA) has been in a dormant state since the previous consultation rounds. While many former members remain personally committed to the campaign—including as local representatives, residents, or business owners—the organization is not currently operating in a formal capacity. Its website and social media channels continue to be maintained by the original Webmaster as a public resource. In light of the recent decision, those channels may adopt a renewed focus on monitoring and scrutiny during construction.
